The concept artists like to keep their skills sharp. So each drew a set of animals. I tried a variety of styles. Ranging from abstract, expressive to realistic. All drawn in Procreate on iPad.
Values Study
One of the true privileges of my job is working with other artists. The concept team I worked with, practiced some fast image making; focused on value and composition. Here are my results. Thank you to Marc Stewart for the hints, tips and advice.
Meta Family
I investigated the Meta Human tool released by Unreal. I decided to try to recreate my family likenesses. I didn’t use any of the advance features, literally used the sliders to sculpt the best likeness I could. Whilst not perfect resemblances, the likeness would be very compelling in a video game. Areas that I found limiting were the ear shape, youthful likeness and nose shaping. I believe the limitations are imposed so that you can’t create wildly unrealistic characters.
Whilst its difficult to achieve an exact likeness with the sliders, it’s more than enough for creating a variety of realistic looking people. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this in the future.
